Big Green Egg: Beer Can Burgers

I've been hearing about Beer Can Burgers left and right, and it seemed to me they'd be right up my husbands alley.  They are definitely "man food."  That's right, it is basically a round stuffed meatloaf or an open face burger stuffed with one filling or another then topped with cheese.  Man food.

My recipe loosely follows these instructions from BBQ Pit Boys.

Recipe for Two Beer Can Burgers

Ingredients -
  • 1 lb hamburger (80/20 works well)
  • Filling of your choice
  • 4 slices regular cut bacon
  • Slide cheese to top the burgers
  • A canned beer or two, can cleaned
Directions -
  1. Heat your egg to about 350 with plate setter inside.
  2. Gather all of your ingredients.
  3. Divide your hamburger meat in half and form each half into a ball.
  4. Push the beer can into the meat and press the meet the meat around the sides of the can to form a cup.
  5. Wrap two stripes of bacon around the meat and remove the can.
  6. Add filling.  I highly recommend including some cream cheese.
  7. Top with cheese.
  8. Offer the beer to your husband, or drink it yourself.
  9. Place a drip-pan into the egg, add your grate & let the grate heat up.
  10. Place your burgers on the egg and cook for about 40 minutes.
  11. Remove and enjoy!
